The modern man should certainly spend a part of his time in viewing the TV, in going for an evening walk, in social calls for a change and so on to suit his temperament and fancy. The youth clubs, the coffee house, the playground and the public libraries speak volumes in favour of the leisure consciousness of the people. No doubt there are a number of labour saving devicesin the modern world like the pressure cooker, grinder, food processor, the washing machine and so on. The presence of these in our households have certainly not made the work easier for the housewife. One should realise that she has dispensed with the servant maid, hte launderer, the miller and so on because she has dispensed with the servant maid, the launderer, the miller and so on because she has the gudgets to help her in her choses. Consequently, all these are done by herself leadind to more and more demand on her spare time.
Many of us are engaged in doing specialised jobs. There is no sense of achievement, no sense of wholeness in our lives. This gap can be filled by the leisure hours. We can spend our time in reading, music, drams and athletics thus developing our personality and achieving an all round satisfaction.
The creeks, knew the uses of leisure. The provided healthy and recreative exercises to the masses. Similarly, the modern man too can become better and greater by taking to boating, skating and wrestling instead of drinking, idle gossip and romantic nonsense.
